Watch demolition of Dockside Willies restaurant in Wormleysburg - PennLive

Demolition has started at Dockside Willies restaurant in Wormleysburg.

On Monday, drivers along South Front Street were doing double-takes at the sight of an excavator ripping apart the restaurant.

A two-alarm fire July 23 destroyed Dockside Willies, which sits next to Rock Bass Grill at 449 S. Front St.. Fire officials have said they suspect the fire started in the restaurant’s kitchen and centered around a brick oven.

Owner Don Carter Jr. said he expects Dockside Willies to be rebuilt and ready to reopen as early as mid-June, pending any construction delays due to weather. The restaurant is a popular spot for its casual menu and riverside views.

“We have an opportunity to do it fresh and new,” Carter said.

The new restaurant will be two-stories with banquet rooms overlooking the river. Carter said they are attempting to salvage a portion of the building from 1996. About 30 percent of the deck will have to be removed to accommodate construction but the portion of the deck will be rebuilt, he said.

To thank firefighters, the restaurant hosted a fundraiser in August with proceeds benefiting local fire companies.
