Italian-inspired restaurant Carlucci’s coming to Monte Vista district in San Antonio - mySA

Monte Vista is getting a new Italian-inspired restaurant in the new year when Carlucci’s opens in the short-lived home of Luz Mia Restaurante off McCullough Avenue.

With a projected opening in mid-January, Carlucci’s will serve lunch and dinner, with a mix of handmade pastas, soups, salads and sandwiches, said Clay Bergman, who co-owns the restaurant with chef Joe Brango.

Bergman characterized the menu as Italian with heavy American influences: “The kind of Italian food that Italians invented when they came to America.” Brango, who has lived in Italy and worked as an Italian chef, most recently in Maryland, will run the kitchen at Carlucci’s, Bergman said.

The menu hasn’t been finalized, but Bergman said plans include handmade pastas like lobster and duck ravioli, a cheese-and-pear sacchettoni pasta, crawfish bisque and sandwiches ranging from Italian meatball to pork and broccoli rabe to a New Orleans roast beef sandwich, even a Texas cheesesteak with cheese sauce for dipping.

Carlucci’s will be open 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday to Saturday, Bergman said, and they plan to add beer and wine once the licensing goes through.

Carlucci’s takes the place of Luz Mia in the building at 138 E. Mistletoe Ave. just off McCullough Avenue. The breakfast-and-lunch Tex-Mex spot closed just weeks after it opened in September. Carlucci’s will join Barbaro and Capparelli’s on Main as destinations for Italian-style food in the neighborhood.
