A renowned chef and Pittsford native plans to open a restaurant in the East End's former 2 Vine location next spring.
Richard Reddington and business partner Dennis Wilmot announced the venture on Sunday.
"I was always planning on coming back to Rochester, it just took longer than I thought," Reddington said in a news release. "My family is all in Rochester and the East Coast, and my focus and priorities have shifted. I am impressed with the local food scene and excited to bring my cuisine back home."
The new restaurant at 24 Winthrop St. will be called REDD. Reddington operated a restaurant by the same name in Napa Valley, California the past 13 years before closing in October. He continues to operate Redd Wood, a woodfired pizza restaurant there. REDD was awarded a coveted Michelin star in 2007 and Redd Wood is five-time Bib Gourmand. In the release, the new Rochester restaurant will be a large bar area, outdoor and private dining.
"My favorite restaurants are not pretentious and you just have a great time there" he said, adding that he hopes to "create a classic Rochester restaurant" that also is unique in the area.
Reddington said he would be "exploring the local markets and food vendors here."
The previous tenant, the popular 2 Vine bistro, closed this past February, citing an expiring lease. The company that operated the business owed more than $100,000 in back taxes at the time, and one of its suppliers had sued over unpaid bills.
