It was an active year on the central Pa. dining scene.
We saw the arrival of several heavy-hitters, mostly chain restaurants. Primanti Bros. arrived in Hershey and announced plans for a second area venue in 2019 at the Capital City Mall in Lower Allen Township.
Dave & Buster's opened the adult arcade and restaurant at the Capital City Mall, while Iron Hill Brewery & Restaurant pulled into Hershey with its craft beer and food.
Here are some central Pa. openings we covered from the beginning to the end of the year.
Bruno Pizzatown USA
118 Old York Road, Fairview Township (just across the New Cumberland line)
Opened: January
This pizza shop moved a few doors down Old York Road into a refurbished Turkey Hill. The new look is definitely an improvement over the old location.
Business appears to be brisk as customers order counter-side for standard pizza shop fare including pizzas, salads, wraps and sandwiches, as well as entrees such as chicken parmesan, baked ziti and linguini with clams.
A grilled chicken salad is served on a crisp bed of lettuce with shredded mozzarella cheese, a few tomato slices, onions and pickle slices. It comes with a side of bread.
Recently, the restaurant started serving breakfast, daily.
Gilligan's Bar and Grill West
5002 Carlisle Pike in Hampden Township
Opened: February.
The 8,000 square-foot restaurant sits at a prominent corner at Carlisle Pike and South Sporting Hill Road. It's modeled after Lois' two other East Shore Gilligan's restaurants in Lower Paxton and Swatara townships.
"It's a little more different look. It's modern," said owner George Lois.
The nearly 330-seat restaurant is carved into four different dining sections. A bar, accented by LED lights, mirrors and neatly displayed liquor bottles, is the main attraction.
They've also incorporated Lois' 1959 Italian Lambretta scooter and a decorative metal wall imported from China into the decor.
Let's block ads! (Why?)
