SANFORD, Mich. - In the quaint downtown of Sanford lies a family owned pizza joint called "Sanford Pizza".
It's been open for six years and Owner Pam Riggie says it's the bond of the community that brings her joy every day.
“If you go outside people wave at you and honk their horn and it's a very comforting, comforting community,” said Riggie.
And it's this community that came through a couple years ago when the restaurant's oven caught fire almost forcing the business to close.
“Donations started pouring in and people wanted to fix our oven,” Riggie stated.
So, to show her appreciation, Pam and her husband Roger whip up a holiday feast every year for those who need a place to go on Christmas.
“Honestly, I didn't have anything to cook for dinner so when this place was mentioned I said let's go,” said Sanford local Stephanie Messer.
Messer is new to the area and says Pam and Roger's generosity has taken her by surprise.
“It's odd and rare does a restaurant actually serve Christmas dinner and give out gifts so...this is wonderful,” Messer stated.
And yes, you read that right. In addition to providing a free meal, kids can also pick out a free toy.
“We just want every child to have a present, maybe a stuffed animal to snuggle up with at night, you know...to just be there,” said Riggie.
Pam says it's her way of giving back to the community that has given her so much over the years.
“It's great, it's good, the food here is really great,” Messer stated.
Pam says she couldn't be more thankful for the community donations she received to be able to host today's holiday dinner.
She says in previous years she's served close to 200 people, but she hopes to surpass that number today.
