Stay Hungry: Tri-State food and restaurant news round-up - Evansville Courier & Press

The long-awaited Amy’s on Franklin by Amy Word-Smith with chef Jeremiah Galey will begin a public soft opening on April 17. The style is Midwest comfort food influenced by the French Quarter, Mexico and Texas. The menu is original featuring dishes such as duck carnitas in lettuce wraps, ribeye steak charred on wood coals and a warm arugula salad with soft duck egg and bacon.

Carson’s Brewery has released a doughnut beer actually brewed with Kempf’s Donut Bank doughnuts added right to the mash. Try it at their tasting room.

Comfort by the Cross-Eyed Cricket is renovating the soaring top floor, which was once a bowling alley and opera house, into a large events space which will hold up to 250 people. Owner Josh Tudela plans to begin booking events as soon as possible after inspections are completed.

The Eastland Mall Food Court has seen some recent changes. The Taqueria Company and Steakburger Company are no longer, and their locations have been combined to house the new China Experience. China Experience’s former location as well as Yihi Japan remain vacant. Watch for the soon-upcoming opening of 6 A.M. breakfast restaurant in the corner spot next to Chick-fil-A.

Eastland Mall – 800 N. Green River Road

Henderson Brewing Co. is now releasing beers to local restaurants. The first on tap is Henderson Ale, a refreshing pale ale made with Centennial and Chinook hops. It will be available only at restaurants, and will not be served in the brewery’s tap room. It is currently on tap at Rookie's Sports Bar and Grill, Beverage Barn, Rockhouse on the River pizza, Hometown Roots, Metzger’s and Wings, Etc.

Parlor Doughnuts has added milkshakes and malts to the menu for warm weather. Flavors include vanilla, chocolate, strawberry and pineapple.

Raffi’s Oasis Café Mediterranean restaurant has expanded the menu. New items include fatoush salad with pita croutons, beef shawarma and lentil and vegetable soup. Your old favorites such as Raffi’s excellent falafel, kebabs, crab cakes and Jerusalem salad with tahini dressing remain.

Roast Coffee Bar is now open in Henderson next to Hometown Roots, in the former location of Hong Kong Foodie. It is owned by Casey Todd of Hometown Roots and serves coffee from Frothy Monkey in Nashville with sweet and savory muffins.

Spankey’s Una Pizza has enhanced the menu with five new summer salads. Options include a new Westside Salad with veggies, croutons, parmesan and cheddar cheeses, ham, pepperoni and bacon; a cranberry spinach bacon salad with feta cheese; a vegan salad with veggies and vegan cheese and more.
