Best Austin Sushi Restaurant Kome Opens New Restaurant Uroko in Govalle - Eater Austin

One of Austin’s best Japanese restaurants, Kome, is opening its next new spot, Uroko, next week on 1023 Springdale Road in Govalle starting on Wednesday, May 1. The new Springdale General restaurant will focus on temaki (aka hand rolls) and omakase.

Heading the restaurant is longtime Uchi sushi chef Masazumi Saio, who left the lauded restaurant after 16 years of service. He joins Kome co-owners Kayo Asazu and Takehiro Asazu.

Uroko’s menu is all about temaki during the weekdays, served fast-casual style. The conicular seaweed wrap is filled with rice and usually sashimi and vegetables The item isn’t available at Kome’s original menu.

Then, on the weekends, the restaurant will offer what Kayo Asazu described to Eater as approximately 45-minute-long “quick” omakase. Reservations for those meals will be available to book sometime tonight.

The third component of Uroko is its educational culinary classes, which haven’t been announced yet.

Uroko’s current and future neighbors in the Springdale General complex include sandwich and wine restaurant Front Page, the upcoming French bakery Julie Myrtille, and the forthcoming Caffe Medici cafe and roastery.

The Asazu opened Kome back in 2011, which moved to a new location in 2017. They also operate ramen restaurant Daruma and combination ramen-sushi stall Ni-Kome.
