The restaurant spot at 3403 South Lamar Boulevard is vacant yet again after gastropub Kicked Up Grub closed in March, as pointed out by a tipster. This is the third restaurant to cycle through the address, which is at the bottom of apartment building The 704.
Kicked Up Grub opened in June 2018, courtesy of chefs Charles Cherentin, Steffi Gutierrez, and Samuel Albert. It serving a wide-ranging menu that included salads, meatballs, and Sunday brunch, along with a full bar.
The spot was originally home to Aroma Italian Kitchen and Bar, which opened in 2014 and closed in 2017. Then, a new owner and chef opened ManinPasta in December 2017, which earned a complimentary review from the Chronicle, but ultimately closed last year.
While this address has been a tough sell for restaurants, it has still seen fewer closures then the Lamar Union complex down the street. Though things seem to have settled down recently, in 2017, Italian restaurant Cantine, corner store Delicious, and Mexican restaurant El Burro all closed, followed by longstanding Vox Table in early 2018.
