Asian Fusion Chain Restaurant Chain Kona Grill Closes in Austin - Eater Austin

Asian Fusion Restaurant Closure
Contemporary American restaurant, sushi bar, and cocktail spot Kona Grill closed its only Austin location up in the Domain area sometime in mid-April. The Arizona-based chain isn’t doing so well and might have to declare bankruptcy soon.

Matthew McConaughey at Whataburger
Texas actor Matthew McConaughey and his wife Camila Alves hit up a Whataburger drive-thru in San Angelo, Texas this week. Before they drove off with what appears to be a big fast food order, McConaughey delivered his famous phrase “alright, alright, alright” to the staffers, who filmed the encounter.

Best New Austin Dish
While no Austin restaurant made GQ’s list of the country’s best new restaurants, a dish from brewery/restaurant the Brewer’s Table was memorable enough for writer Brett Martin for him to include it in his best new dishes round-up. He really enjoyed the smoked rabbit carnitas with “warm tortillas [...] drizzled with a pig blood mole.”

Sustainable Seafood in Austin
The James Beard Foundation included South Austin restaurant Lucky Robot Japanese Kitchen (which now offers Nikkei) into its sustainable seafood program Smart Catch. The inclusion recognizes the sushi restaurant’s sustainable efforts to the degree where it doesn’t serve bluefin tuna. The only other Texas restaurant is San Antonio spot Cured.
