Taksir Sharqi folk band to play at Makan - Time Out - Arts & Culture - Ahram Online

Newly-founded Taksi Sharqi will perform some of their traditional repertoire at Makan Art Space in Cairo, Tuesday, 5 March.

Founded in 2017 by Wust El-Balad member Ahmed Omran, Walid Abdu (percussion) and Amin Shahin (arghol and kawala) the band is deep-rooted in Egyptian culture, playing traditional styles like Gnawa and Zar merged with modern tunes and arrangements.

They usually feature Zar iconic vocalists Madiha Om Sameh and Abdel-Rahman Balala, accordionist Wael El-Sayed, bass guitarist Wetty and saxophonist Amr Wegz.
