CLEVELAND, Ohio – Olé! We’ve made it through another Northeast Ohio winter and we’re gearing up for the first fiesta of spring/summer – Cinco de Mayo, of course!
So dust off your Sombreros and shake your maracas as we welcome you to our next Cleveland’s Best contest -- Northeast Ohio’s Best Mexican Restaurant!
The contest starts with your nominations and now is the time to tell us which establishments need to be included in the contest. Please nominate your favorite Mexican restaurant in the form below, which is fast and easy to submit.
We’re looking for places that serve more than just great tacos – we’re talking amazing enchiladas, chimichangas, flautas, burritos, chili relleno, beans and rice... – everything that makes a great Mexican restaurant great.
And, as always, we’re looking for independent restaurants, or Ohio-based chains, with at least one location in our seven-county coverage area of Cuyahoga, Lorain, Medina, Summit, Portage, Geauga and Lake counties.
HOW TO NOMINATE A MEXICAN RESTAURANT
Now though Sunday, March 31 at 6 p.m., use the nomination form below to tell us your go-to Mexican restaurant. Please tell us why it should be included in the contest, and which dishes are a “must try.”
COMING NEXT: ONLINE POLL AND VISITS TO FINALISTS
Once we have a list of nominees, readers will vote in an online poll to determine the finalists. Voting in the poll begins April 2. You may vote once each hour until the poll closes on Tuesday, April 9 at 9 a.m.
Once readers have determined the finalists, Cleveland’s Best reporting team of Brenda Cain and Yadi Rodriguez will hit the road to visit your finalists April 16-May 13. They will take in the whole experience, everything from the atmosphere to the chips and salsa to the fajitas and flan. We will publish our opinions on the foods, along with lots of photos and video from each restaurant.
We also will publish our schedule of visits in mid--April and you’re invited to meet up with us at the restaurants to sample the food as well.
In the end, we will name an ultimate winner and the Top 10. We will also have lots of delicious superlative winners such as Best Guacamoles, Best Margaritas, Best Chimichangas.
WHERE SHOULD WE ALL CELEBRATE CINCO DE MAYO?
Yes, we’ll be doing the “heavy lifting” of tasting all the incredible foods our finalists create, but our readers still will have work to do as well.
Once the list of finalists is published around April 12, you’ll be voting in an another online poll to tell us where we should hold a Cinco de Mayo celebration on May 5. You’ll vote, and, hopefully, will also join us at the party, either at the restaurant or by watching the fiesta on cleveland.com’s Facebook page!
