New Japanese Restaurant Uroko Will Open From Kome Team in Austin - Eater Austin

Essential Austin Japanese restaurant Kome revealed some more details about its forthcoming hand roll restaurant, Uroko, within the Springdale General complex at 1023 Springdale Road, opening sometime in April. Along with the previously reported focus on temaki, aka hand rolls, the new Govalle restaurant will also offer quick omakase.

The omakase menu will take place on the weekends, expecting to last for 45 minutes. The goal behind Uroko is to “provide casual sushi options for the neighborhood,” explained co-owner Kayo Asazu, also from Kome, “and share our creativities on the weekends.” The space will also feature educational culinary classes. Scope out the restaurant renderings below.

Leading the restaurant will be Masazumi Saio, who previously spent the past 16 years at Uchi. Also involved is Kome’s other co-owner Takehiro Asazu.

Also opening in the Springdale General complex are New York-style sandwich and wine restaurant Front Page, French-inspired bakery Julie Myrtille, and a new Caffe Medici cafe and roastery.

The Asazus ran food truck Sushi-A-Go-Go before opening Kome in 2011, and then followed by ramen spot Daruma in 2013. Kayo Asazu opened Japanese-inspired Sa-Ten in 2015 with East Side King’s Moto Utsunomiya. The Asazus also opened up a combination Kome-Daruma, Ni-Kome, within downtown food hall Fareground in January 2018.
