Ronnie Killen’s second Houston restaurant is coming soon

Ronnie Killen just can’t stop opening restaurants. Just a few months after debuting his new Tex-Mex eatery Killen’s TMX and earning his second James Beard Award nod in the Best Chef - Southwest category in a row, CultureMap reports that the Pearland restaurateur has plans for a new restaurant in Houston.

The new spot, focused on “Southern-style comfort food,” will take over the space recently vacated by longstanding chicken fried steak spot Hickory Hollow. He’ll keep serving CFS, along with barbecue dishes and other comfort classics like meatloaf. No opening timeline has been set, but expect for it to arrive sometime in the next few months. When the restaurant opens, it will join Killen’s Pearland restaurants — Killen’s Burgers, Killen’s Barbecue, Killen’s TMX, and Killen’s Steakhouse — and Killen’s STQ in Houston.

Heights restaurant Presidio won’t reopen after all

Last year, Heights restaurant Presidio was forced to close after an electrical fire caused significant damage to its building, but owner Adam Dorris vowed to rebuild. Those plans have officially been canceled, according to Chron.com, as Dorris puts his focus on opening forthcoming new Montrose patio bar Lotti Dotti in the coming months.

Popular vegan festival finds a new home

VegFest, the meat-free bonanza that’s been held in Houston since 2011, will move to Minute Maid Park in 2019. Set for July 13, the festival will feature sampling of vegan eats from as-yet-unnamed restaurants, panels, and activities for kids. Food vendors will be announced in the coming months.

A Washington, D.C. restaurant has its eyes on Houston

Scotts Restaurant & Bar, a D.C. eatery helmed by chef Will Artley, has plans to expand to Houston. The restaurant made its D.C. debut only a few months ago, in November 2018, and its website indicates that plans are already in the works to open ten new locations in the future, including outposts in Houston, Dallas, Denver, Miami, and San Francisco. A representative has not yet responded to Eater’s request for comment on Scotts’s expansion, but stay tuned for more details.
