Here's the breakdown for recent inspections in Lee County.
Four restaurants closed temporarily
It appears to have been a rough couple of weeks for Lee County restaurants, as four local spots were ordered to close following inspections.
El Jibarito Restaurant y Lechonera, 522 Joel Blvd. Ste. A, Lehigh Acres closed March 7 after receiving multiple high-priority violations for food stored at improper temperatures — including beef, raw bacon and pork belly. In a followup inspection March 8, the restaurant was allowed to reopen, but it received an administrative complaint about a backup of sewer water through floor drains. Time was extended on its basic violations.
Nino's Thick & Thin Italian Restaurant, 18911 S. Tamiami Trail #11, Fort Myers closed March 1 after inspectors issued 18 violations. 22 rodent droppings were found under the two-compartment sink, freezer gaskets were soiled with "slimy/mold-like build-up," and fish and shrimp were observed in standing water. The restaurant was inspected again on March 2, met standards and was allowed to reopen.
At Dominos #4945,13008 Palm Beach Blvd., Fort Myers, rodent activity caused the restaurant to close temporarily on Feb. 27 A dead rodent was found in a trap in a storage area, along with an "accumulation of dead or trapped birds, insects, rodents, or other pests" in control devices. Rodent droppings were also found. The restaurant was inspected again on Feb. 28 and was allowed to reopen.
Jill's Joint, 889 NE 27th Lane #1, Cape Coral, closed Feb. 25 after accruing 13 violations. Nearly 100 rodent droppings were found in various areas in the kitchen, and raw food was stored over ready-to-eat food in the walk-in cooler. A time extension was granted on five violations, and the restaurant was allowed to reopen. It's not the first time Jill's Joint has closed temporarily — records show the restaurant has closed at least three other times since 2014 after accruing numerous violations.
More violations
Among the other Lee County restaurants accumulating the most violations in recent weeks were Dolce Rita's, 12870 Trade Way Four #113-114, Bonita Springs with 35 violations; Sunset Beach Tropical Grill, 1028 Estero Blvd., Fort Myers Beach with 28 violations; Doc Ford's Rum Bar & Grille - Captiva Island, 5400 South Seas Plantation Road, Captiva with 25 violations; and Harbourside Bar & Grill, 5400 South Seas Plantation Road, Captiva with 19 violations.
West Bay Club Beach House, 26194 Hickory Blvd., Bonita Springs; Bubble Room, 15001 Captiva Dr, Captiva; El Tarasco Mexican Restaurant,1320 Business Way, Lehigh Acres; and Bokamper's Sports Bar & Grill, 8001 Plaza Del Lago Drive Suite 113, Estero each accrued 18 violations.
Dolce Rita's, West Bay Club Beach House and Bokamper's have not had their followup inspection yet. Sunset Beach Tropical Grill and El Tarasco Mexican Restaurant were inspected again, but an administrative complaint was given and a third inspection will be required. Although Doc Ford's Captiva Island received 25 violations, they were all corrected onsite and no followup inspection will be required. Harborside Bar & Grill passed a followup inspection on March 7. Bubble Room was given a time extension on an intermediate violation, but another inspection will be required.

The good news
The area restaurants with zero inspection violations were Happy Sun Ice Cream, 110 NE 2nd Place #301-302, Cape Coral; Papa Johns Pizza #4116, 13650 Fiddlesticks Blvd. Ste. 205, Fort Myers; Sweety's, 1480 NE Pine Island Road Unit 1E, Cape Coral; Panera Bread, 9970 University Plaza Drive, Fort Myers; Texas Tony's Rib and Brew House, 738 SW Pine Island Road, Cape Coral; and multiple dining areas at Hertz Arena, 11000 Everblades Parkway, Estero, including Mario's Italian Kitchen and Molly Moo's Ice Cream.
