ATLANTA - A popular Atlanta BBQ restaurant was destroyed in an early morning fire.
Channel 2's Darryn Moore was the first reporter at the scene at B's Cracklin' Barbecue off Bolton Road in northwest Atlanta.

Firefighters tell Channel 2 Action News that the fire started around 2 a.m. in the pit area. The owner tried to put out the fire but it spread too fast.
Video shows heavy flames and smoke coming from the restaurant.

The road was shut down in the area as crews work to put out the fire.
Moore spoke to the owner who said he was first alerted to the fire through an app on his phone. He raced over to the restaurant where he said he saw the fire in the back of the restaurant.

The owner told Moore that at first, firefighters had a hard time using a fire hydrant because they said it was faulty. But they were soon able to start putting water on the fire.

It took more than four hours for the fire to be put out.
The restaurant has been on many "top restaurant" lists for Atlanta. The restaurant's chef, Bryan Furman, was just named as a semifinalist for the prestigious James Beard Award for Best Chef Southeast.
