Downtown Restaurant Week returning to Fairfield - TheReporter.Com

After a successful inaugural launch of Downtown Restaurant Week last year, Fairfield foodies are ready to indulge in their favorite local eateries once again.

Downtown Fairfield Restaurant Week returns this week, starting Saturday.

The Fairfield Main Street Association brought the first Restaurant Week to Fairfield last year. Executive Director Margaret Manzo said many nearby cities do Restaurant Weeks in January, which is designated by the state as California Restaurant Month, but staff wanted to do it at a different time.

“Last year, we decided not to join the crowd in January and wait for March,” she said. “People tend to be on diets in January and are also budgeting, so we thought March would be a better time of year to do this.”

Moreover, Manzo said downtown Fairfield had a number of new eateries before last year’s Restaurant Week and figured the event would be a good way to showcase them as well as the nearly 20 established favorites along West Texas St. as well as surrounding streets.

“It was time to really highlight that,” she said.

Manzo said last year’s event drew a large turnout, and she expects this year will do the same. She said Fairfield’s tourism association, the Conference & Visitors Bureau, will be continuing as a sponsor.

“(Last year), we brought in hotel staff to expose them to all of the great restaurants in downtown,” she said. “It’s a really good partnership.”

As with last year, downtown restaurants will be offering discounts and special menus all week. These include new eateries such as Amar Indian Cuisine & Banquet and Taqueria La Mexicana and established favorites such as Chez Soul, Luigi’s Deli & Draft, Mediterranean Food Center and Saffron Indian Cuisine & Bar.

Discounts include 10 percent off menu items at Saffron, a featured daily burger at Rustwater Kitchen & Taproom and free corkage for Fairfield-produced wines at participating restaurants. Manzo said the list of participating eateries and discounts was still being finalized at press time, but a full list will be found at FairfieldMainStreet.com.

The week will kick off at 2 p.m. Saturday with A Taste of Downtown. In addition to enjoying the Restaurant Week deals, patrons who purchase a “Passport to Taste” will be able to visit local businesses and be served beer, wine or non-alcoholic beverages.

“What’s great about this is the retail businesses will be the ones pouring the beer and wine,” Manzo said. “They get some great exposure for the downtown.”

There will also be live music by Fairfield’s Outta Kontrol Band in Luigi’s terrace and Benicia country tribute band 5 O’ Clock Somewhere at the corner of Texas and Jackson streets.

A Taste of Downtown will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday. Tickets are $20 and include a passport and wristband. The check-in booth is located at the corner of Texas and Webster streets. The event will be held rain or shine.

Restaurant Week will run through March 16. For more information, visit FairfieldMainStreet.com or call 422-0103.
