The team behind San Francisco’s popular Lilholiho Yacht Club is headed to the Mission District with a new yet-to-be-named restaurant at 3560 18th Street, in the former home of Farina.
It’s a joint venture between chef David Golovin (La Folie, NOPA), and managing partners Jeff Hanak and Ravi Kapur (Liholiho Yacht Club, Louie’s Gen-Gen Room).
Details are slim at this point, but according to a release from the trio, their forthcoming restaurant is going to focus on wood-fired cooking and preservation, among other things. The tentative opening date is this fall. (Inside Scoop has reached out to the team for more information.)
The project is also just the latest chapter in what’s been a notable surge in the activity in the Mission between 18th and 21st streets and along Valencia Street. The Liholiho crew is able to fill the former home of Farina because it closed in 2017 when the state seized its liquor license amid reports of the business owing hundreds of thousands of dollars in back taxes and unpaid wages.
That part of the Mission has seen the popular food truck Senor Sisig announce plans to open on the 900 block of Valencia; the Flour + Water team to plot a move into the 700 block of Valencia into the old Farina Pizza; and the Senegalese restaurant Bissap Baobab on 19th Street get sold to new owners.
Meanwhile, places like Anthony Strong’s 19th Street Italian hotspot, Prairie, and the popular lemonade stand on Valencia Street called Gourmonade, have built niche followings.
Stay tuned for more details.
