The owner of Alinea, the highest-rated fine dining restaurant in Chicago, has invited the college football national champion Clemson University Tigers to experience “what an actual celebration dinner should be” and promised a meal there would “be worth it.”
The invitation follows the White House celebration for the football team, where players were served fast food from Burger King, McDonald's, Wendy's and Domino's Pizza.
“I could care less about college football. But I'm personally inviting the Clemson Tigers team and coaches to Chicago to experience what an actual celebration dinner should be,” Nick Kokonas said in a tweet on Tuesday.
“I'm not joking. Someone let them know what The Alinea Group does. It'll be worth it,” he continued.

According to Eater Chicago, Alinea is the only restaurant in Chicago to earn a full three-Michelin star rating. The Michelin star designation comes from the Michelin Red Guide, which is published every year and awards three stars for excellence to very few establishments.
In an interview with The Chicago Tribune on Wednesday, Kokanas said that he doesn't think "there’s nothing wrong with fast food."
"I like a burger as much as anyone else. At the end of the day, though, I’m betting they’ve had that, as football players, a thousand times. I bet they’ve had nothing quite like what we do," he continued.
Kokanas said he and his team members know how to “appropriately” throw a celebration for “the appropriate occasion," and said the team could expect "like maybe four or five suckling pigs roasted properly, and the Roister fried chicken" if they were to dine with his restaurant.
“We’re not billionaires, but we can afford to do it the right way,” Kokonas continued. “I’m trying to make this as nonpolitical as possible. For me, this isn’t about politics. It’s about something we can do to correct something I thought was just wrong. That’s it.”
Kokanos also said the vintage champagne he would serve the college team would have likely cost him more than the $3,000 that the White House was estimated to have spent on the fast-food meal.
The White House said in a statement that the president wanted "to host a fun event to celebrate" the champions on Monday, but "because the Democrats refuse to negotiate on border security, much of the residence staff at the White House is furloughed."
"So the President is personally paying for the event to be catered with some of everyone’s favorite fast foods,” the statement continued.
