BORDENTOWN CITY - A couple who dined at Under the Moon Cafe on Thursday night left a shocking message instead of a tip.
As the couple's server was closing up at the end of the night, she noticed that "Don't Tip Immigrants!!!" was scrawled on the back of their bill.
Restaurant owner Santiago Orosco posted a photo of the anti-immigrant message on Facebook over the weekend.
Orosco said the couple, who he described as in their mid- to late 40s, raved about the restaurant's food, service and decor.
But their tone changed, possibly after hearing their server speak Spanish to another employee, Orosco said.
"I am utterly shocked at this blatant ignorance," the owner wrote.
"Your server, who helped create an excellent experience for you, who you discriminated against with written ignorance and no tip, is not an immigrant, she is of Spanish descent, born in America and is multi-lingual," Orosco posted.
Orosco noted that he is a "proud immigrant."
"I came to this wonderful country for a better future, which, with a lot of sacrifice, heartache, pain and sweat I have accomplished," he posted.
He had a message of his own for the couple who left the note.
"At Under the Moon we accept all people but not ignorance and discrimination. PLEASE DO NOT COME BACK!!!"
