Dining on the Treasure Coast: Does your favorite restaurant pass inspection? - TCPalm

Do you ever stop and think about the kitchens in your favorite restaurant?

Then you might want to check out TCPalm's digital database of restaurant inspections.

The up-to-date database, searchable by restaurant name or county, lists the establishments that passed, failed or barely passed the inspections run by the Division of Hotels and Restaurants.

Inspection lists are long, with the goal of assuring all state sanitation and safety laws are adhered to. Inspectors check the obvious such as food temperature and grease accumulation but they also check the details such as drains, gaskets, mops and properly stored cleaning solutions. Inspectors also check to be sure all certification and training is up to date.

Findings are classified as either high priority, intermediate or basic. Deficiencies could be something as simple as a missing hand-washing sign or as gross as rodent droppings.

Each inspection is a "snapshot" of conditions present at the time of the inspection and may not be representative of the overall, long-term conditions at the establishment.

In the past 30 days, some restaurants passed inspection easily and others had note-worthy violations. Here are some of the standouts.

St. Lucie County

In the past 30 days, 12 St. Lucie County eateries did not pass inspection. Some of the restaurants with the most violations include Steak N Shake, 6737 Darter Court, Fort Pierce. The fast food restaurant was cited Jan. 4 and temporarily shut down for 46 violations.

Club Med's Main Dining & Infinity Pool Bar recorded 22 violations on its Jan. 4 inspection. Infractions ranged from basic to high priority and included cross-contamination, food temperature concerns and a missing hand-washing sign for employees.
