Ben and Penny’s on the Newburgh Riverfront previously announced it would not be opening this summer… but owners Ben and Penny Nejad have reconsidered and, pending the hiring of a good manager, the location will open, and walkers of the Rivertown Trail will have access to their favorite ice cream and treats.

The annual Confections of the Rich and Decadent Ultimate Bake Sale benefiting the Public Education Foundation will happen on Friday, May 10 at Old National Bank on Main Street from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Vendors include Julia’s Just Desserts with 6-inch cakes, macarons and pavlova; Piece of Cake with 8-inch cakes, cupcakes and cookies; the Sisters of St. Benedict with their Monastery baked goods and more sweet and savory goodies donated by local bakers, celebrities and culinary students.

The Evansville Donut Festival will happen at the Old National Events Plaza on Saturday, May 11 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Ticket price is $14.95 for adults and $7.50 for kids. Events include unlimited doughnut and coffee samples, live entertainment, bloody Mary bar, barista art competition, kids’ activities and more. A portion of proceeds go to Stoplight City and Trolley Playgrounds.

A Farmers Market in or near Downtown Evansville will be happening. Actually, two of them. Although the previous Downtown Market will no longer operate, the Market on Main collaboration between Urban Seeds, Healthy Communities Partnership and Purdue Extension will take place at the Ford Center Plaza on both sides of Main Street from Sixth to Martin Luther King Boulevard on Wednesdays from 9:30 a.m.–1:30 p.m. Food trucks will be parked on MLK. Dates are June 5 – Sept. 18. A second, Saturday morning Evansville Farmers Market will happen at the US Incubator at 815 John St. Food trucks will be present.

Mayse Farm Market is now open with hot house tomatoes, other produce, baked goods from the in-house bakery and more. Brand-new items include Amish-made summer sausage and jerky, cheese and local cage-free eggs.

Myriad Brewing Company will begin hosting a monthly beer pancake breakfast on Saturday, May 11, from 9 a.m.-noon. The pancakes are made, yes, with beer.

The New Harmony Farmers’ and Artisan’s Market is now open on Saturday mornings from 9 a.m.-noon. You’ll find the earliest crops such as kale, sorrel and herbs alongside eggs and prepared items such as pickles, dried tomatoes and baked goods.

River Kitty Cat Café has introduced a new happy hour from 5–7 p.m. Tuesday – Friday. Drop by on your way home from work for complimentary munchies and visits with the kitties. New pastries from Julia’s Just Desserts include peaches and cream macarons and zephyrs, a European marshmallow-like fluffy, fruity treat.

The first Seton Harvest Twilight Dinner of 2019 will take place Saturday, May 11 beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the West Side farm and CSA. Food will be prepared by Culinary Innovations and Be Happy Pie Company, with many ingredients grown at Seton Harvest. Cost is $35. Siciliano Subs is coming soon to West Franklin Street. The sandwich shop will offer Italian and Cuban sandwiches made with Boar’s Head products and locally-baked bread. Any sandwich can be ordered as a salad.

Sunshine Juice has opened a new location on West Franklin Street, so west side fans of the always-fresh, organic, unpasteurized cold-press juice can get their fix close to home. The location will also offer smoothies and food.

Tacoholics Mexican Restaurant in Henderson has introduced a new double-decker bus food truck they’ve christened the Chimi Truck. Look for it at events, breweries and all around the area this summer offering street tacos, chimichangas and other quick south-of-the-border bites. Tacoholics also offers delivery from the restaurant.

A Tasty Bite of Europe food truck from Owensboro, Ky., will be seen around Evansville this summer. The truck specializes in crepes, but also might offer gulasch, lasagne, chili, pastries, and a rotating assortment of European specialty dishes.
