In Collier County: Collier restaurant closes for 2 weeks, Naples restaurant accrues 28 violations

Last week, we reported on Dairy Queen Grill & Chill in Cape Coral closing temporarily.

The restaurant at 1419 NE Pine Island Road closed for three days following inspections where live roaches were found, according to the Department of Business and Professional Regulation.

The restaurant met inspection standards during a followup on May 16. Dairy Queen did not respond to requests for comment on the inspections.

Here's the breakdown for more of the latest inspections in Lee County.

Athenian cited for 29 violations

The restaurant accruing the most violations in recent weeks was Athenian Restaurant, 1130 U.S. 41 N., North Fort Myers, with 29 violations. High priority violations included raw fish stored over cooked pork in the walk-in cooler and small insects flying in the bar area. A stop-sale was issued due to food not being in a "wholesome, sound condition." A dead fly was found in a container of cooked sausage, and cooked potatoes were placed on and contaminated by a used egg crate.

A buildup of a mold-like substance was also found in the ice bin, and two cases of potatoes and a bag of onions were stored outside near the walk-in cooler door rather than inside of it. The restaurant is required to be inspected again, though results are not yet available.

More violations

Among the other Lee County restaurants accumulating the most violations in recent weeks were Super Tacos, 1771 Many Road, North Fort Myers with 17 violations; Crave Restaurant, 12901 McGregor Blvd. No. 6, south Fort Myers with 16 violations; Rumrunners, 5848 Cape Harbour Drive, Cape Coral with 15 violations.

Super Tacos was inspected again on May 16. Time was extended on seven violations, but the restaurant met all other standards. Crave has not yet had its followup inspection. Rumrunners met inspection standards onsite and did not require a followup.
