Baja Cuisine Influences Bayside Coronado Restaurant - Eater San Diego

Due this spring at the Coronado Island Marriott Resort & Spa is the uniquely-named AL BA CA, Alta California Kitchen, a new signature restaurant for the property that will be located on San Diego Bay near the Coronado Ferry Landing. Serving California cuisine, it will also incorporate the backgrounds of the hotel’s new executive chef Rafael Corniel, who was born in the Dominican Republic, and Mexican heritage of the restaurant’s chef Aaron Obregon, Obregon, whose past culinary experience includes the seafood-focused Beerfish and Bay Park Fish Co., joined the property in 2017 while Corniel replaces former executive chef Michael Poompan.

Their seasonal menu will draw heavily from coastal waters, employing seafood from Southern California and Baja as well as local produces in dishes influenced by Latin and Baja cuisines. Designed for indoor and outdoor dining, the restaurant will include a large patio with fire pits; also opening this spring at the Marriott will be a brand new pool bar called Auga.
