As Myrtle Beach firefighters worked to extinguish a blaze at La Casona Mexican Restaurant, owner Melissa Garcia stood across the street and could only watch.
“I feel like I’m losing my baby,” Garcia said.
Around 8 a.m., crews responded to the 1901 N. Kings Highway restaurant for the reported fire. There were no reported injuries in the blaze.
Three ladder trucks were spraying water from the roof as dozens of firefighters worked around and inside the building. Myrtle Beach police blocked off 16th Avenue North to 21st Avenue North during the incident. Horry County Fire Rescue also responded to the area.

Garcia said she and other employees left at 6:30 a.m. after a night of work to eat breakfast. She said she received a phone call telling her she needed to return because of a smoke alarm. It wasn’t until she arrived when she saw the extent of the situation.
“I’m in shock,” she said.
Garcia had difficulty describing her emotions watching the smoke pour from the roof of the building. She added she was nervous and didn’t want to go inside to see the damage.
But, she was happy there were no customers inside when the blaze started.
