Where to Eat in Austin While Sticking to New Year's Resolutions - Spectrum News

AUSTIN, Texas – So many of our New Year’s resolutions involve being healthier, and it all starts with what we eat. 

Food bloggers Natasha Wilson and Vanessa Halls, the founders of @ATXFoodChronicles, have some healthy restaurant recommendations if you're looking to eat out in January. ​

This restaurant was built on a desire to serve fresh and nourishing food made with real ingredients. The drinks are made with fresh-squeezed juice and sweetened using natural sweeteners. You can choose to enjoy these beverages “Healthy” (alcohol-free), or “Boozy” to kick it up a notch​.

  • Sweet Potato Migas – These are made of soft scrambled eggs, grain-free chips, black beans, house pico, fire-roasted salsa, and cilantro Cholula. This dish is also vegetarian and gluten-free.
  • Granola Fruit Parfait – Made of organic Greek yogurt, golden raisins, puffed rice, blackberry chia pudding, granola, seasonal fruit, and honey. This dish is also vegetarian and gluten-free.
  • Dip Trio – It’s fire-roasted salsa, edamole, cashew queso, cilantro, Siete grain-free chips. This fish is vegan and gluten-free.
  • Poke Wrap – It has salmon, brown rice, avocado, pickled cucumber, cilantro, mint, and a sesame soy wrap. It is gluten-free.
  • Kale Mary – This drink uses Reyka Vodka, house bloody Mary mix, diced tomatoes, and kale juice.

The menu features fresh, sashimi-grade fish, mixed with sauces made from scratch and fresh vegetables, fruits and herbs from local farms. They also offer cooked options, including chicken, cooked shrimp, tofu and vegan bowls.

  • Red Miso Salmon – Made of jicama, furikake, scallion, micro herbs, arare, serrano, and crispy garlic.
  • Spicy Aioli Shrimp – Dish has edamame, avocado, serrano, radish, sesame, marinated cucumber, crispy garlic, and micro herbs.

Marye's Gourmet Pizza

This restaurant is locally owned and operated for the last two decades. It serves gourmet pizzas, salads, and sandwiches made with locally-grown, organic herbs and vegetables, artisan meats and cheeses, and imported extra virgin olive oil.

  • Marye’s Salad – Mixes an organic spring mix, wild baby arugula, granny smith apples, onions, organic almonds, feta, and house-made balsamic, and an 8 oz. piece of cooked salmon.
  • Chicken Lettuce Wraps - Bella Verde Farms butterleaf lettuce, East Poultry roasted chicken tenders, English walnuts, carrots, cucumbers, red grapes, cilantro, green onions, a pinch of jalapeno, and drizzled with house-made sweet chili sauce.
