More dining details are out now on the most anticipated aspects of the massive Hudson Yards development opening this spring: Spanish cooking superstar (and humanitarian) José Andrés’ full-service restaurants in Mercado Little Spain will include a live fire spot, a seafood restaurant, and an all-day cafe.
Mercado Little Spain — something like a Spanish version of Eataly — is a 35,000-square-foot food hall, a project from Andrés with the help of high-profile modernists Ferran and Albert Adrià. It’s the first New York project for all of them, who are among the most famed chefs on the globe.
One full-service restaurant will be a live fire-focused venue called Leña, which will serve grilled meats and paella. Next, Mar will be centered around imported Spanish seafood, and finally, there will be Spanish Diner, the most casual-sounding of them all. It’s an all-day spot serving eggs for breakfast, combination plates for lunch, and beer. Two additional bars in Mercado Little Spain will also be on-site, one with cocktails and the other with Spanish wines, plus 15 tapas kiosks. It’s on the ground floor at 10 Hudson Yards, at the corner of 10th Avenue and 30th Street.
Meanwhile, Momofuku kingpin David Chang’s Hudson Yards business model sounds like it will be similar to the one at Time Warner Center, where the full-service Momofuku Noodle Bar has an accompanying takeout window in Bāng Bar. Full-service dining from chef Eunjo “Jo” Park — who’s worked at Ko, Daniel, and Per Se — will come in the form of Kāwi, a name that was announced today. Next door will be Peach Mart, a to-go business that will serve sandwiches and snacks, including kimbap, a Korean sushi roll.
On Wednesday, Hudson Yards also announced that longtime Midtown Greek restaurant Estiatorio Milos will be introducing a new concept in the development — a Greek wine bar called Milos Wine Bar. During the day, the fifth-floor space will have a yogurt bar and packaged goods like olive oil; it will otherwise focus on Greek wines and small plates. The sixth floor will have another location of Estiatorio Milos.
And London-based catering company Rhubarb has also dropped more info on its fifth-floor restaurant in the Shops property. Chef Peter Jin (Hotel 50 Bowery, Refinery Hotel) will helm the venue, now called Wild Ink. The company is also opening a restaurant at the top of 30 Hudson Yards.
Other newly announced options include Kosher bakery William Greenberg Desserts, an Upper East Side institution open since the 1940s that’s known for black and cookies. It will be on the third floor. Li-Lac Chocolates and Dylan’s Candy Bar will also be joining.
In total, the massive project from developer Related Companies will have more than 100 restaurants and retailers once open on March 15th, with dining selection help from chef Thomas Keller. Keller, too, will have a restaurant, as will Michael Lomanaco. Fuku, Shake Shake Shack, Sweetgreen, Bluestone Lane, Blue Bottle Coffee, and Van Leeuwen will also all have outposts here.
It’s one of the biggest and most ambitious projects to hit NYC in years. Besides food, offices, apartments, and art are part of the space.
