Department Store Neighborhood Goods And Restaurant Is Opening in Austin - Eater Austin

Hip and fancy Dallas-Fort Worth-based department store Neighborhood Goods is coming to Austin, with a restaurant in tow. It’s setting up at the ever-growing Music Lane development at 1011 and 1009 South Congress Avenue sometime in 2020.

Specific plans for Neighborhood Goods’s restaurant aren’t set in stone yet for the 10,000 square-foot space. A rep for the company noted to Eater that, “as of now, it will be a smaller integration” as compared to the original Plano shop’s restaurant, Prim and Proper.

Prim and Proper’s all-day restaurant is found in the back of the store. The menu features general American dishes from burgers to sandwiches to salads to toasts (dubbed “Millennial Toast” with smashed avocado), desserts from local bakeries, a kids menu, coffee, and cocktails. It was developed with Front Burner Restaurants, a hospitality company that oversees places like sports bar chain Twin Peaks, Texas taco mini-chain Velvet Taco, and others.

Neighborhood Goods’s retail component features dedicated spaces for rotating brands like recycled shoe company Rothy’s, apparel company Cynthia Rowley, hair product line R+Co, art book publisher Taschen, and others.

Co-founders Alexander and Mark Masinter began Neighborhood Goods in 2017 and opened the Plano store in late 2018. Their future plans include expanding into New York City with a restaurant later this year, as well as further expansions too. The company also recently raised $11 million through venture capital firm Global Founders Capital to help with the growth.

Neighborhood Goods is just the latest addition to the growing Music Lane restaurant list. Already there’s Soho House’s public restaurant, Chicago Mediterranean restaurant Aba’s first Texas location, bougie fast-casual spot Sweetgreen, Gelateria Gemelli’s second location, Velvet Taco’s second Austin location, and the just-announced California juice bar and health store SunLife Organics’s first Austin shop.
