Labor Day 2019: Which Restaurants Are Open? Chick-fil-A, Dairy Queen and More - Newsweek

Schools and most businesses in the United States will close for Labor Day on September 2—a public holiday which honors workers in America. This Labor Day has extra significance given that it is the 125th anniversary of the holiday.

The first version of the holiday was celebrated on Tuesday, September 5, 1882 in New York City. Its creation, in large part, was thanks to the efforts of the Central Labor Union which wanted to create a holiday for workers, according to the U.S. Department of Labor.

The idea behind the holiday was to give the public a chance to appreciate the achievements of American workers and U.S. trade organizations.

By 1894, 23 more states had decided to adopt the celebration and in June of that year, President Grover Cleveland signed a law declaring that the first Monday of September every year will be a national holiday.

If you're searching for a place to eat while you spend Labor Day with friends and family here's a handy list of some of America's most popular restaurants that will be open on Monday.
