See inside new upscale sushi restaurant O-Ku in Germantown - The Tennessean

A Charleston sushi restaurant that’s been named one of the best in the U.S. by Travel + Leisure will make its Germantown debut this week.

O-Ku opens Friday, June 21 at 81 Van Buren St., bringing yet another upscale dining option to the neighborhood home to some of Nashville’s most acclaimed restaurants, including City House, Rolf & Daughters and Henrietta Red.

The Nashville outpost of O-Ku is the sixth location for the concept owned by The Indigo Road Restaurant Group, which also debuted Charleston-based Oak Steakhouse in Music City two years ago.

“We’re eager to bring our second Indigo Road restaurant, O-Ku, to Nashville and introduce chef Eric Hill to the city’s growing culinary community,” Steve Palmer, managing partner of The Indigo Road Restaurant Group, said in a statement. “Following our successful opening of Oak Steakhouse downtown, we’re excited to introduce another established Indigo Road restaurant to Germantown, one of Nashville’s most vibrant neighborhoods.”

Hill, who became passionate about Japanese cuisine after his first visit to Japan, joins O-Ku Nashville from the Charleston restaurant.

The O-Ku menu will showcase rare and unique seafood from the finest fish markets in Tokyo and Hawaii, according to its website. Options will include sushi, sashimi and nigiri, hot entrees and other traditional dishes that celebrate Asian cuisine.

Specific menu items include Hawaiian poke tuna, wagyu tartare, O-Ku rock shrimp, agedashi tofu, braised short rib, Japanese mushroom farro risotto, shrimp tempura roll and much more. Beverage offerings will include cocktails, beer, wine, sake and nigori.

Diners can also enjoy an omakase experience, or chef’s choice, which is an artistic multi-course tasting experience.

Design elements at O-Ku Nashville include oversized chandeliers and wooden wall treatments mixed with Japanese-inspired lavender banquettes and manzanita branches.

O-Ku will be open for dinner from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, and 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday. People can enjoy a sushi happy hour from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays, featuring half off all sushi rolls and drink specials.
