Miracle pop-up bars
Need a little help getting into the holiday spirit? There’s a Christmas miracle — er, Miracle — for that. The national Miracle pop-up bar concept will transform three different Boston area bars — the Kimpton Marlowe, The Citizen, and Mystic Station — into winter wonderlands, complete with themed cocktails and, fingers crossed, that sexy leg lamp from “A Christmas Story.” (Through Monday, Dec. 24 at various times; Kimpton Marlowe, The Citizen, and Mystic Station; prices vary)

The Witching Hour Pop-Up: Pizzagate
The Satanic Chef returns for another devilish pop-up, this time at the Frogmore, a Jamaica Plain watering hole. From 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. — the “witching hour” — on Thursday, chef Adam Dodge will take over the kitchen, serving flatbreads, fried burrata, and more dishes from his upcoming cookbook. A portion of the proceeds will go toward the Depression Clinical and Research Program at Massachusetts General Hospital. (Thursday, Nov. 29 at 10 p.m., The Frogmore, Boston; prices vary)

Latke-making at Mamaleh’s
Hanukkah starts on Dec. 2, and if your latke skills need some refining, you might want to take a cue from Mamaleh’s. The Cambridge deli will offer latke-making classes on Friday to ensure golden discs of potato perfection, plus how-tos for making your own apple sauce and garnish. In addition to detailed instructions from chef Tyler Sundet, tickets include bites, a beverage, and printed recipes. (Friday, Nov. 30 at 5:30 p.m.; Mamaleh’s Delicatessen, Cambridge; $72)

Eight days of latkes
Lulu’s Allston is celebrating the Festival of Lights with eight days of latkes, as chef Sarah Wade debuts a new (and wildly different) latke each night from Dec. 2 to Dec. 10. Look out for red beet potato latkes with spiced sour cream and apple chutney, apple and potato latkes with cumin lime yogurt, and carrot and parsnip latkes with harissa cream and toasted pistachios. (Sunday, Dec. 2 through Monday, Dec. 10 at 11:30 a.m.; Lulu’s Allston, Boston; prices vary)

“Cooking Is a Call to Act”
The 2018 Science and Cooking Public Lecture Series is hosting its final lecture of the season on Monday, and it’s a big one: Chef Massimo Bottura, whose restaurant Osteria Francescana was named the best restaurant in the world in 2018, will close out the series with a lecture titled “Cooking Is a Call to Act.” Get there early, as this talk is bound to fill up quickly. (Monday, Dec. 4 at 7 p.m.; Harvard Science Center, Cambridge; free)

What’s new

Bartaco opened in the Seaport. —Bartaco

Tacos come to the Seaport
Bartaco opened its first Massachusetts location of the chain last week, bringing more than a dozen taco options to the Seaport, along with rice bowls, quesadillas, tamales, and desserts (a horchata panna cotta sounds like the perfect way to finish a meal). Try the tamari-citrus steak taco or the chicken pastor taco with grilled pineapple, or maybe a fall specialty — like the black beans with sofrito.

A swamp pops up in Roslindale
Well, sort of. Jamaica Plain-based Turtle Swamp Brewing is moving into the Roslindale Substation on Friday for a months-long residency, operating the Turtle Swamp Winter Bierhalle until Jan. 15 (and possibly longer). Stop by for one of its original beers in a cozy, communal setting on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.
