Westchester Restaurant La Crémaillère Owner Arrested for Fraud - Eater NY

Owner of high-profile Westchester restaurant arrested for fraud

Officials arrested the proprietor of upscale French restaurant La Crémaillère Restaurant on Tuesday, accusing Barbara Meyzen of identity theft and mail and wire fraud. Meyzen’s owned it since 1993, and she allegedly charged $80,000 of supplies to a regular’s American Express and submitted false bank statements to apply for business loans. The country-style restaurant with a pink dining room has been open since 1949 and is known for its rich and famous clientele, with diners including Mick Jagger, Billy Joel, Glenn Close, Tommy Hilfiger, and Governor Andrew Cuomo. Meyzen pleaded not guilty.

Joël Robuchon’s Le Grill restaurant closes for a revamp — and other closings

Michelin-starred Le Grill — the slightly more casual and affordable restaurant in front of L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon in Chelsea — closed last week for renovations. It will now be its own standalone restaurant, closed off from the tasting menu space at L’Atelier. New banquettes, lights, and colors will be employed for “a luxurious lounge”-style restaurant, with hopes that the crowd and space will become more “high energy,” a spokesperson says. The menu, from longtime Robuchon protégé chef Christophe Bellanca, will change too, with more small plates that work for sharing. It’s expected to reopen in September.

But over on the LES, fast-casual Japanese spot TongKatsu appears to be closed permanently, following a closure that was supposed to be temporary.

Grand Central’s food court sales are down

Grand Central Terminal had a 3 percent drop in sales in 2018, according to a report from the MTA. The area, which has vendors such as soup chain Hale and Hearty and restaurant Art Bird & Whiskey Bar, turned into restaurant spaces more than 20 years ago, and officials now blame “outdated furniture design” for a decline in revenue. They’re also pointing to the number of homeless people in the terminal. The MTA is planning to hire consultants soon to freshen up the look.
