Lincoln City’s historic Otis Cafe was damage by flames on the Fourth of July, but the owner says he hopes to rebuild the icon restaurant.
Heavy smoke billowed from the restaurant about 7:45 p.m., and North Lincoln Fire and Rescue arrived within 10 minutes and put out the fire in about 30 minutes, said Jim Kusz, the rescue’s district captain.
The building was unoccupied at the time, and no one was injured.
No cause has been determined yet, but investigators from the joint Lincoln County Fire Investigation Team and Oregon State Fire Marshal’s Office planned to examine the wreckage Friday.
Flames from the fire could be seen from the eaves near the chimney. The fire was contained to the kitchen area and attic, but extensive damage was caused by smoke and heat in the small restaurant.
Jeff England, the restaurant’s owner, told rescue officials that he hopes to rebuild and he was overwhelmed by the community support.
